• Notes

  Henry Albert Marquardt was known all his life as Albert, rather than Henry. He emigrated fro m West Prussia in 1879. He settled on Castile Road, in the tiny Hamlet of Ruby, Silver Lake, Ontario. and lived ther e all of his life with Emilie Krizizan, a Polish girl who lived in the area. One of his grandchildren remembers him walking into Eganviille every Friday...a journey of 1 5 miles.. and returning the next day, laden with supplies and treats for the children. The y would gather round him while he opend a bottle of sweet sherry and gave them each a small g lass to sip, while they opened the surprise packages that he brought with him..there was alwa ys candy and whatever little items that he thought they might enjoy...buttons, hair bows..ra g dolls etc.
